Bio

Daniel Cvammen is a professional studio artist and teacher with experience in advertising. He began serious drawing during high school, choosing his artistic career path after jettisoning potential math and science majors. Soon, he planted himself in Greenville County where his career in the advertising/design industry began, working for Erwin-Penland. It was here that he sharpened his team-building skills, eye for design and an appreciation for all the tools in art. He no longer was exclusive to brush and canvas. He left EP to pursue a fine-arts path fueled by a desire to share his ideas of art. He currently teaches at Mauldin High School in Greenville County. Each year, he works with 150 ceramic students in various modes including hand-building, sculpture and throwing on the wheel.

Daniel also enjoys Huttball and, in particular, disabling his opponents with concussion missiles and a patented wrist-mounted flame sweep.

How I Use Star Wars in the Classroom

I teach ceramics and one of our lessons was Construct Your Own Lightsaber. The point of the lesson was to teach students how to follow a regimented schematic but still be able to make that piece an original. I had technical 'read-outs' of the sabers (unfortunately, many Bothans died bringing me those plans). Once they created the basic structure, they were free to decorate, design and enhance their sculpture with whatever they wanted, more or less.
