I am a dentist and have been in private practice for 11 years. I own a general dentistry practice and enjoy using Star Wars to help teach oral hygiene and discuss careers in dentistry with elementary and junior high age students. Along with two friends of mine, we have published a book called "So You Want To Be A Dentist?"

I am not an educator/teacher, but I am a dentist and each year for the last 11 years I have visited local elementary schools and junior high schools in my area to teach students about the importance of good oral hygiene. I use Star Wars and Star Wars characters to help students get interested in the topics. I like to show them Darth Maul's and Darth Sidous' teeth often to enforce that if they don't brush and floss regularly their teeth will look like a Sith Lord's. Most of the kids know these characters and when I bring in my life-size cardboard cut outs and pictures I get a lot of oohs and ahhs and the kids are immediately interested. I am a life-long Star Wars fan and I also have many Star Wars toys in my office, which makes younger patients feel like I am relatable. Especially since most people dislike visiting the dentist.
