Bio

I was born in 1966 and as an 11 year old in ’77 I wanted to see Star Wars and become an astronaut. I achieved the former, which resulted in a lifelong passion for all things Star Wars. The latter eventually morphed into a desire to be an Astronomer which materialised in a first & second degree in the early ‘90’s. I have two daughters, born in ’93 and ’97 just in time for the start of the prequel trilogy, who have also become avid Star Wars aficionado’s following the Prequels and the Clone Wars series. Since 2010 I live and work in London but unfortunately not on the set of Episode VII.

How I Use Star Wars in the Classroom

I have taught physics at University for well over 15 years and I would use Science elements from Star Wars to set questions or challenge students in coming up with questions themselves, that could be as mundane as 'how much energy it would take to blow up a planet (poor Alderaan)' or 'how rigid can a lightsaber blade be?' Since 2010 however I teach Economics in London and there the ethical, political and economic aspects of starwars are things i like to draw on, including the material of the The Clone Wars series.
