How I Use Star Wars in the Classroom

I am a moderate-intense special education teacher. I have 5 students that I work with ranging from grades 1-4. My students are diagnosed with Down Syndrome, Williams Syndrome, and Autism. My classroom is decorated in all things Star Wars. On Thursday mornings, 4/5 of my students cook with me. All of our recipes are Star Wars themed. I have done Yoda Soda, Tie Fighter cookies, Galactic Sticky treats, Obi-Wan Kabobies, Lightsaber Pretzel Rods, and Darth Malts. Next week we will be making Boushh Balls. In addition, we invite a guest chef every other week to cook with us. Last week, the superintendent of our district cooked with us. The guest chef gets to wear our Darth Vader cooking apron. I also have a Stay on Target board in my room that displays our classroom rules and reward system. I am also excited about planning a Serve Like A Jedi project this May 4th with our 4th grade classroom. The classroom that I plan on working with is the homeroom of one of my students diagnosed with Down Syndrome. I am always looking for more ideas and excited about collaborating with other fans and educators. I do have a website with pictures from our past recipes. MyGalacticClassroom.com
