In the movie "You've Got Mail" Tom Hanks's character claims that The Godfather is the I-Ching (the "sum of all wisdom"). In my teaching, I've found that Star Wars is the I-Ching. My students always know they are moments away from my constant Star Wars references. It's almost impossible to avoid. So many works of literature and life lessons match characters, places, incidents or concepts in the 6 films (so far). Whether it's using the most common education connections (Luke/Han Solo on Campbell's hero journey or Anakin/Obi Wan as an Aristotle Tragic Hero), "real-life" connections, or direct connections to literature (the ESB cave, Obi Wan's "Point of View" discussion) I am constantly discovering new ways to discuss Star Wars in my classroom.
