While I don't typically teach the films as texts or make overt overtures, Star Wars, flavors everything from classroom examples to the inspiration shelves (where people go to get ideas for projects and papers and whatnot) with old Star Wars RPG books, issues of Wired with Chris Hardwick & the 501st on the cover to my absolutely public ownership of my geekiness -- my Maine license plate reads X-Wing.
Before my new classroom with limited wall space for posters and such, I had action figures, Darth Vader Potato Head, multiple posters for everything from the Empire remastered VHS release (sweet AT-AT) to the Anakin/Vader shadow poster (only good thing about Ep 1). I've had to be way more selective this year and more clever with new regs in our new building.
Next year, there will be emblems everywhere courtesy my new silhouette cutter. There will be 3-d lightsabers courtesy my new Replicator 2.
And I'll be teaching my pop culture elective that I had to turn over to others for a few years. And you had better believe Ep VII is going to be a big, big deal in that class.
