How I Use Star Wars in the Classroom

When do I "not" use Star Wars in my classroom? I reference/utilize "The Saga" on a near daily basis in my English Literature courses to help reinforce certain aspects of our literature for that day. For example, I have shown the Clone Wars animated episode ("Nomad Droids" - Season 4, Episode 6) where C3PO/R2D2 arrive on a planet surrounded by tiny figures led by a violent/warring leader...I use this episode/clip to show the allusion to Jonathan Swift's Gulliver's Travels (Gulliver's trip to Lilliput) and how present-day references to 400 year old literature are still popular even today. Another example, when discussing Macbeth and his tragic flaw of ambition...there are several Star Wars examples that I talk about and make parallels to when talking about this dark, Shakespearean play...Anakin's fall to the Dark Side and how it compares to Macbeth's fall, or how King Duncan's sons Malcolm and Donalbain are going to flee Scotland in separate directions (one to England, the other to Ireland) after their father's death and how their separation with keep them safe, much like how Luke and Leia are split up for their protection at birth.
